NMM 2.4 SP1 is out!

A formal service pack is ready for the people who are using Networker Module for Microsoft Applications (NMM), It might be useful to know that there is a new build release for this version.

It is release 2.4 SP1, Build 92.

The NMM2.4 SP1 software contains the following new features and enhancements.

  • Windows Server 2012 application support

    NMM 2.4 SP1 supports the following Microsoft applications on the Windows Server 2012 operating system:

    • SQL Server 2012
    • SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1
    • SQL Server 2008 SP3
    • SharePoint Server 2013
    • Hyper-V, including Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV)

    The support for these applications on Windows Server 2012 is only with Windows VSS Software Provider.

  • Windows Server 2012 client support
    The table lists the Windows Server 2012 client support provided by NMM 2.4 SP1.

    Notice: NMM 2.4 SP1 does not support Windows Server 2012 deduplication volumes.

  • SQL VDI multi-stream Data Domain Boost support
    NMM 2.4 SP1 includes client based Data Domain Boost multi-streaming support that is provided by NetWorker 8.0 SP1 or later. This support enhances the backup time and allows a backup to complete three times faster than a backup performed with Data Domain.

  • SharePoint Server 2013 support
    NMM 2.4 SP1 supports Microsoft SharePoint 2013. This support is consistent with the support provided for SharePoint Server 2010 in the previous NMM release. NMM support for SharePoint Server 2013 is only for Windows VSS Software Provider.

  • Hyper-V 2012 support
    NMM 2.4 SP1 supports Microsoft Hyper-V 2012. This support is consistent with the support provided for Hyper-V 2008 R2 in the previous NMM release. NMM support for Hyper-V Server 2012 is only for Windows VSS Software Provider.

  • Windows Server 2012 Active Directory granular recovery support
    NMM 2.4 SP1 supports Active Directory granular backup and recovery for Windows Server 2012. This support is consistent with the support provided for Windows Server 2008 R2 in the previous NMM release.

  • Configuration Wizard support
    The configuration wizard support has been extended to include SharePoint Server 2013.
    Client resources can be created for SharePoint Server 2013 by using the Configuration Wizard.

  • Windows 32 Services Component file backup support in Windows Server 2012
    NMM 2.4 SP1 provides Windows 32 Services Component file backup support in Windows Server 2012. To back up Windows Service Component files as part of file system back, you must use NSR_SYS_WRITER_WIN32_SERVCOMP_USER=YES parameter. Not specifying NSR_SYS_WRITER_WIN32_SERVCOMP_USER=YES results in this component being backed up as part of SYSTEM COMPONENTS save set.

If you are wondering why should you update your version to this release. Or with other words, what is fixed in this release?

Cumulative hotfix includes these main new fixes:

NW145945 – Mailbox RDB browsing does not show content of mailboxes.
NW144756 – Unable to retrieve permissions for RDB restore intermittently in slow Active Directory environments.
NW143977 – GLR recovery fails with database mount error.
NW130402 – RDB data recovery fails with error “Error Determining RDB Capability:”
NW131820 – Unable to browse very large mailboxes after recovering mailbox store to RDB.
NW141795 – Unable to browse RDB for databases with large number of mailboxes (greater than 1300). Works for smaller number of mailboxes.
NW141365 – NMM 2.4 backup fails with error: NMM .. Exchange2010 Shell interface is unavailable.
NW140167 – Mailbox recovery is successful, but sub-folder recovery returns empty results.

This update is installed as per the installation instructions for the NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications 2.4. The old NMM must be uninstalled, and then the new version installed.
